TRAVEL ESSENTIALS

My Athleta favorites are as suited to globetrotting as I am

This post is part of a collaboration with Athleta, and includes three gifted items, which are noted below. All other items featured in this post were purchased by me. I’ve worn Athleta for ten years in more than a dozen countries, so I’m thrilled to partner with Athleta.

As a frequent traveler, I am very particular about what makes it into my luggage and I’ve turned to Athleta for my travel outfits for more than a decade. Athleta clothing have kept me comfortable and adventure-ready in Europe, Asia, Africa and India. At home, they are my favorite for workouts and lounging. Their pieces are comfortable, versatile and attractive.

I’ve partnered with Athleta to share some of my favorite things; the go-to items I wear at home and away.

Athleta uses performance fabrics that are highly functional (breathable and quick-drying for example) so they travel well.  And the styles are classic so they offer the polished look I gravitate to for travel. I can be comfy for a long travel day and still look chic when I arrive.

Above I am wearing the Athleta Elation Ultra High-Rise Shine Legging (gifted). I love the Elation because it’s stretchy with a comfy waistband, and has just the right amount of compression to be really flattering. I suggest sizing up; I am wearing a medium.

On top, I’m wearing a Pranayama Restore Wrap in the color truffle. This is a travel MVP! I take a cozy sweater-wrap on every trip, year-round. I sized down to x-small. Layered under the wrap I am wearing the Softluxe Tank with Built-In Bra (gifted). This current version is similar and I love the brighter colors: Transcend Scoop Built-In Bra Tank

A woman is walking in a train station holding the handle of a suitcase, smiling. She has long blonde hair and is wearing black leggings, and a blue vest open at the front and a grey sweatshirt underneath. She is wearing sneakers.

I love leggings for travel because they can do triple duty: they are comfy for long plane rides, can be worn under dresses or pants for a warm layer and are ideal for exercise—I wear mine to stretch in the hotel room. I also love them for lounging after a busy day of sightseeing.

Athleta features inclusive sizing and are B. Corp Certified. They are on a path to sustainability by using lower-impact and recycled materials in many of their products.

Athleta Joggers, for Home and Travel

I’ve always been active but also recently started stretching in the morning. It doesn’t take long, about 10 minutes, and I notice it boosts my energy. I’m wearing the Softluxe Highrise Jogger and matching Softluxe Tank (both gifted) in the color Pyrite Dovetail Heather, a pretty brown. A similar option is the Coaster Luxe High-Rise Jogger.

They are a lighter weight than traditional joggers yet very cozy, making them ideal for yoga, lounging and long flights. They come in several pretty colors.

After I stretch, I put on the Pranayama Restore Wrap – another fabulous item for travel. It’s cozy for a chilly plane and a versatile layer for evenings. It comes in more than a dozen colors, and in sizes XXS to 3X.

Athleta Travel Outfits, Around the World

Susan Heinrich stands in front of a sign that says Camp Okavango at a safari lodge in Botswana. Her safari outfit is green pants, a white shirt, a cotton scarf and sandals.

My Athleta favorites have traveled with me to more than a dozen countries. They pack well, are versatile and easy to care for. On safari in Botswana I wore the Athleta Midtown Ankle Pant, a lightweight, quick-dry, drawstring pant that is ideal for active adventure, long jeep rides and sudden rain showers. The current version is the Trekkie Relaxed Mid Rise Jogger, and it’s had an upgrade with zippered pockets.

I always reach for Athleta travel pants when I create a capsule wardrobe. They are comfortable, versatile and don’t wrinkle.

I am wearing the Cosmic Wide-Leg Pant in all the above photos. With an elastic waistband, they are comfy enough for an overnight flight across the ocean and chic enough for wearing to dinner. They are also very lightweight so great for packing. I would only say they aren’t warm enough f0r very cold weather.

Here are Athleta’s current “travel pant” options that are most similar. Stratopshere High Rise Wide Leg Pant. Note that the waistband has a stripe.

Or if you like a cargo pocket style (slightly more casual feel) the: Brookln Heights High Rise Cargo

My vest in the Ireland photo is also by Athleta. A vest is another great item for travel. It can be compressed into a small bag when you aren’t using it, and adds a cozy layer on cool days. Athleta vests are currently out of stock. I will add some options when they become available.

Athleta Dresses for Travel

A woman stands in front of the Taj Mahal in India. She's wearing sunglasses and a striped dress.

Athleta dresses are another favorite for travel outfits, because they are so easy. I took an Athleta Tank Maxi dress on my trip to India. It was cool, comfortable and the jersey fabric didn’t wrinkle, so it always looked great. A current similar style is the Signature Rib Maxi Dress, available in three colors.

Athleta at Home

As much as I love to travel, I am always happy to return home, to my dog Archie, my healthy shakes and my exercise routine. Since I work from home, I wear Athleta leggings or joggers many days.

Above and below I am wearing Salutation High Rise 7/8 Leggings. I’ve had them for several years; they are made to last! As with the other legging styles, I sized up to a medium. The current Salutation Stash High Rise 7/8 Leggings come in various styles and feature soft fabric and medium compression. I love the ones with the mesh detail, similar to what I have on my leggings.

I hope some of these Athleta travel outfits have you dreaming of your next getaway. Or have inspired you to lean into your routine at home, in some of Athleta’s comfy essentials.
